BIOGRAPHY
(ZEPCE 1915 - BRUSSELS 2005)
François I. KOVACS, Belgian sculptor and painter, of Hungarian origin. Coming from a very modest family, at the age of 16, he worked with his brother Ernö Kovacs who sculpted funeral monuments. It was during this period that he learned the basic elements of sculpture such as modeling and molding of vases, columns, blocks and marble work, and later he took drawing and painting courses in the studio of Tibor Galle in Budapest.
Parallel to his artistic activity, he studied medicine, which he practiced in Hungary, and then, having fled his country for political reasons in 1956, he continued his career in his adopted country, Belgium.
He did numerous scientific researches, notably on the microscopic structures of the bone, which earned him the recognition of his peers. His professional activity allowed him to devote himself to his art without worrying about commercial realities.
He did not forget the artistic creation, on the contrary, moved by an energy and an extraordinary need of creativity, he gives all his available time to sculpture and painting. He completes his artistic training in sculpture at the School of Arts in Ixelles for three years. Thereafter, he regularly travels to Carrara in Italy to work on marble.
His artistic activity is characterized by a tendency to research in every respect. This explains the involvement of different periods or styles.
